Why we love minerals at Rachel Doherty Nutritionist!

Minerals are like spark plugs!

Minerals are essential for many processes in the body. Minerals work together and therefore they must be in certain ratios with each other. If we don’t have certain levels of minerals, it can cause many symptoms and disrupt certain functions in the body.

If something doesn’t quite feel right, maybe it is time to look at your minerals.

Here are some common mineral balances we see in clinic:

High Calcium Calcium needs to go into the bone not the tissue. High calcium is often from long term stress and I find it occurs in many older woman. It slows the metabolism down and can often lead to joint/muscle pain, fatigue, blood sugar issues and thyroid issues.

Low Copper – Often copper is biounavailable – floating around the body not being utilised. It can cause mood and anxiety issues, energy issues and can affect our hormones. Many women have been on the pill for a long time and this can affect your copper levels.

High Iron – Often due to inflammation or infection. It can affect your oestrogen levels and cause liver dysfunction.
